THE DOCTOR BIRD AWARDS IN FILM AND TELEVISION 2004

The Doctor Bird Awards in Film and Television (DBA) has three successful stagings under its belt. 2004 marks the fourth staging of this ilustrious event. In 1998, Mediamix Limited reached its landmark 25th Anniversary and in celebration staged the first DBA Gala.  With so many Jamaicans excelling at home and abroad in the field of film and television, the DBA strove to recognize and honour the achievements of individual creative contributions of Jamaicans (in front of and behind the camera).

The Doctor Bird Awards in Film and Television 2004

continues the tradition of excellence – both as a tribute to those we honour and to those who lend their support to the Awards.  This year’s Awards Ceremony and Screening  will take place at The Palace Cinema on Tuesday November 2, 2004.

THE ORIGINS OF THE AWARD

The name  and basis for the design of the Award was chosen so as to identify with the national bird of Jamaica, not only because of its natural visual beauty but because of its uniqueness and symbolism within Jamaica.

Design and Execution of the Trophy falls into the hands of local ceramist and tutor at the Edna Manley School for The Visual and Performing Arts, Phillip Supersad.

The DBA 2004 Awardee is a talented Jamaican based abroad.  The DBAF is proud to honour this individual and the other unsung Heroes at this year's Awards Ceremony and Screeing.

The Foundation members make up the governing body of the DBAF.  One of their formal duties is the selection of DBA nominees and awardees.

As with all non-profit endeavors, the staging of the Doctor Bird Awards would not be possible without the generous contribution of our sponsors.
