The Doctor Bird Awards filmmaking seminar 2004 is simply dubbed a film and television
reasoning and is
a crucial part of the mission of the DBAF to give back to the film and television community. This initiative has been greatly supported by Mediamix since its inception in 1998.
The programme for 2004 will take place on Sunday, October 31 commencing at
11:00 a.m. and will feature:
The work of our Lifetime Achievement Award (Steven
de Souza) winner and discussion generated by that work on the various aspects of his craft as Producer, Director and Screenwriter. Questions will be answered by our DBA
2004 winner.
It is important to note that this seminar would not be possible without the invaluable assistance and support of the Hilton Kingston Hotel – one of our repeat sponsors and the location for the DBA Film and Television Reasoning.
Members of the Jamaican and broader Caribbean Film and Television Industry are invited to attend. All interested parties are welcome to join us for this Reasoning.
CHANGED FORMAT AND HONOUREES
We entered 2004 aware of the tight economic climate in the public sector, which has been traditionally among our primary supporters and recognized that we might have to make some adjustments to the scope of the event. However, with the advent of Ivan, there was tremendous fall-out in the private sector, particularly with respect to cash contributions. We are extremely grateful to those sponsors who have continued to support the vision of unearthing and exposing the outstanding achievements of the sons and daughters of Jamaica in the area of film and television.
In kieeping with major entertainment Awards internationally, the Doctor Bird Awards will be promoted primarily for a television audience, with an exclusive live audience. CVM TV will promote the event on an even larger scale this year with samples of the work of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awardee being aired throughout the month of October.
We are pleased and excited by the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Awardee – Steven E de Souza – whose body of work boasts over 30 years of producing, directing and writing major blockbuster movies like Die Hard and Lara Croft Tomb Raider among many others. Five stalwarts drawn from the local industry will also be recognized for their body of work and outstanding contribution to the Jamaican film and television industry.
